Bespoke, handmade bullion wire badges

In response to growing client demand, both in the UK and globally, Selcraft now designs and supplies bespoke bullion wire badges. This expansion reflects our dedication to meeting diverse customer needs while maintaining our high quality standards. By offering bullion wire badges, we continue to enlarge our product range, providing clients with professional, traditional, and highly personalised items that stand the test of time.

Bespoke, handmade bullion wire badges represent the best of our craftsmanship.  Our bullion badges are crafted from fine gold or silver plated threads. These detailed badges have been worn on uniforms, ceremonial attire, and regalia for centuries.

Realising complex designs in bullion wire can be challenging due to the limitations of needle and thread.  At Selcraft, our unique expertise lies in our ability to overcome these constraints as far as possible. We push the boundaries of what can be achieved, delivering the best possible interpretation of any design. Our commitment to quality ensures every badge is a masterpiece, reflecting precision, elegance, and enduring craftsmanship.

Why bullion wire badges?

Bullion Wire Badges are a natural complement to our extensive collection of bespoke metal and textile products. Because of the gold and silver thread used in these badges, they have always been associated with prestige, authority, and ceremonial significance.  The badges are an enduring choice for organisations, institutions, and individuals who value quality, heritage and distinction.  In short, they are a perfect compliment to our other products.  You can be assured that we bring the same attention to detail, integrity and quality to our bullion wire badges that has defined our reputation for excellence in other bespoke creations.

The client instructed us to establish an original design based upon their crest, using a CIIIR Crown and Welsh language.  This design was subsequently used to produce various products including this badge that is sewn onto a peaked cap.

One stop shop services

One of the key advantages we offer our clients is the convenience of a one-stop shop for all of their bespoke needs. By integrating bullion wire badges into our existing range of custom products, Selcraft eliminates the need for clients to work with multiple suppliers. This streamlined approach ensures that a full range of ceremonial products can be realised in a variety of materials whilst maintaining a cohesive vision.

This is particularly beneficial for organisations or events requiring a collection of items, such as badges, medals, pins, and embroidered pieces, where consistency in design and quality is paramount. Our integrated service not only saves time and effort but also guarantees that all products align seamlessly in appearance and craftsmanship, subject only to technical limitations inherent in each medium.

By offering this comprehensive service, we provide clients with a stress-free experience, ensuring that their designs are carefully realised across a variety of bespoke items without compromising on excellence.

Hand crafted excellence

Our bullion wire badges are meticulously hand-crafted using copper wire that is expertly electroplated with gold or silver, ensuring a rich, luxurious finish while maintaining durability and flexibility. This traditional material is renowned for its ability to bring designs to life with shimmering, intricate details. However, as already mentioned, the art of creating bullion wire badges comes with technical limitations due to the use of needle and thread. Complex shapes, gradients, and fine details must be carefully adapted to suit the medium, requiring a balance between creative ambition and practicality.  At Selcraft, our expertise lies in navigating these constraints, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved while staying true to the integrity of the design. Each badge is a testament to Selcraft’s skill in overcoming these challenges, resulting in a piece that is both visually striking and a perfect representation of the client’s vision.

Bullion wire badges History

Bullion wire badges have a long history that spans centuries, originating as symbols of prestige, authority, and craftsmanship. Their use dates back to the Middle Ages, where metallic embroidery adorned the garments of royalty, clergy, and military leaders, signifying status and rank. The intricate art of bullion embroidery flourished during the Renaissance, as skilled craftsmen refined techniques to create ornate crests, insignias, and ceremonial emblems. By the 18th and 19th centuries, bullion wire badges became integral to military uniforms, representing regimental pride and heritage. Today, these badges retain their historic significance while continuing to evolve as timeless symbols of tradition and identity.
